A PATIENT’S STORY: ACUPUNCTURE IMPROVES QUALITY OF LIFE AND ENHANCES CANCER THERAPY

Acupuncture and chinese herbs improved the health of a patient suffering from a rare form of cancer: Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia.

The patient, a man who was on the verge of hospice care, was referred to acupuncture treatment as a ‘last resort’.

Before beginning a Traditional Chinese Medicine regime of acupuncture and herbs, he made 61 office visits a year, received 74 transfusions of red blood cells and 23 transfusions of platelets.

After two years of treatment with acupuncture and herbs, his office visits dropped from 61 to 11.

Transfusions of red blood cells were reduced from 74 to 22 and  platelet transfusions from 23 to 2.

His functioning improved so much that he and his wife could once again enjoy travel and other activities.

Unfortunately, Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia is usually incurable and the patient later died. However, Chinese medicine greatly reduced his suffering and gave him quality of life in his last years.
